THE VINEYARD:
Planted in about 1924 and originally worked with mules, John Ferrero's 50 acre vineyard
rises dramatically up the hillside. Grapes from this head-pruned,
non-irrigated vineyard at 1300 foot elevation have excellent concentration and
acidity. Amador Foothill has produced authentic and distinctively flavored Zinfandels from
Ferrero Vineyard since 1987.
THE WINE:
The
grapes were handled gently through desteming, crushing, and fermentation to
lessen the extraction of harsh tannins. The wine was aged mainly in
neutral American oak barrels to showcase the fruit and enhance the varietal
character.
WINEMAKER NOTES:
Aromas and flavors of cherries, raspberries, and chocolate are integrated with spice and subtle oak.
The concentrated fruit and ripe tannins make the wine delightful now.
Extended aging will enhance the complex character of this classic Amador Zinfandel.
FOOD RECOMMENDATIONS:
Enjoy
with garlic and rosemary seasoned grilled lamb chops, Italian sausage, or spicy
tomato pasta dishes.
